ICQr Information FAQ

ICQr Information reads out information stored in ICQ .DAT files.
It currently works for ICQ 99a/b & 2000a/b.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Q: Profile information and contacts are displayed correctly, but the password field stays empty.
A: ICQr Information is a database file reader and reads the Mirabilis DAT stucture. With ICQ 2003, Mirabilis began to store the password inside the Windows Registry and left the entry in the DAT file blank. You can find an ICQ 2003+ password revealer including source code on cobans.net.

Q: I can only see my own account!
How can I get open other DAT files (UINs) than my own?
How can I use my friends' account?
Now I have your tool: How to steal other passwords?
A: ICQr Information has not been designed to steal passwords. I cannot help you to get any other DAT files. If you ARE able to get your hands on somebody's DAT file, you could "steal" the password.

Q: Do you know of any ICQ .DAT file editor?
How can I change things stored in my DAT?
A: Because of the complex structure, it isn't easy to change the .DAT, I won't develop an editor in near future and I don't know a place where to get any. If you're a programmer and interested in coding one, take a look at the ICQ specifications available in the "Additional Links" section.

Q: How can I read out the Message History?
A: ICQr Information does not yet read out the message history and it will not support this in near future. Yet, there is a new tool by some russian hackers at http://hitu.r2.ru/ that exports the ICQ message history to a plain textfile. I have mirrored the latest version here.

Q: I have updated to a new ICQ version and later changed some things in my profile (eg. password), but ICQr Information still shows the old data!
A: After updating, ICQ sometimes creates a new profile in the DAT file, leaving the old one intact. ICQr Information shows the first database entry found on loading and tries to find others when you press the "next user information" button.

Q: ICQr Information does not work here, what can I do?
I get an error message.
It does not display correct information.
A: If you have read this FAQ completely and did not find a solution for your problem, do not hesitate to contact us.
Please include important information, such as ICQ version & build, exact error message and (if possible) the DAT file itself (please use a common packer).

Q: What does the button "next user information" (personal tab) do?
Why do I only get an error message when I press it?
Why can't I load other users data by using it?
A: Sometimes (only reported after updating to a new version) ICQ stores several "states" in the DAT file. ICQr Information only shows the first database entry found and tries to find others when you use this button.
You may try using this button, but do not bother if it does not work.

Q: Why does ICQr Information show wrong/old information, eg. a not valid password?
A: It seems like you're viewing an old save state (see one question above). Try using the "next user information" button before you contact me.

Q: What do the "error numbers" stand for ?
A: They just help me to locate bugs. Please include them if you want to report a bug.

Q: What is the "default save position" ?
A: If you accept files from your contacts using the "Save" button, ICQ stores the files here.

Q: I am using ICQ 98a: ICQr Information does not work.
A: Sorry, ICQ 98a and earlier are not supported. I don't have any documentation about the way they store data. If you can get your hands on them, please send them to me.

Q: How can I hack hotmail/ICQ ?
A: Why do you ask me ?? Even if I knew, I would not tell you.
